5 memorable moments of 2023 | #102
We do not learn from experience, we learn from reflecting on experience
Hi, I'm Pranav
Every Friday, I share my process, thoughts, stories, ideas, and weekly recommendations. We're a community of 150+ curious people reading these newsletters.
We have just a few days left for 2023 to end. 2023 has been an amazing year. I did a lot of things and learnt a lot of lessons. Since the start of of this newsletter in 2021 I have been writing the ear end reflections and lessons and it has helped me reflect on my year. Sahil Bloom in his Personal Annual Review said that we can reflect on our years and learn from them. It is the best way to visualise your year.
“We do not learn from experience...we learn from reflecting on experience.” ― John Dewey
This newsletter is about the 5 memorable things I did this year.
1. Started doing internships
This year, I started doing internships in a few startups. It started with Thousand Faces Club, they are a publication for creators to discover creators and understand the creator economy. I was the community outreach intern.
Then I also did an internship with Build Academy which teaches No-Code and hosts the world’s one of the largest No-Code Hackthons called No-Code Weekend. The founder is Vensy Krishna and she is the Notion India Ambesator. I managed their YouTube channel.
Fueler’s internship was amazing as I had been using Fueler for months and got to intern in that company. It was an amazing experience as I worked on their social media, more focused on YouTube and Twitter. I learned a lot about building startups, social media and how a founder’s mindset should be.
You can check my Proof of Work here (yes, it’s a Fueler profile): https://fueler.io/bypranavpawar
Right now, I am also doing work in the founder’s office role of Hive School. It’s a great role and I have been learning a lot here.
2. Went to Masters’ Union for studying
I started going to Masters’ Union to do my undergrad in Tech and Business Management. It’s based in Gurgaon. I have been learning a lot here, meeting a lot of great people and doing a lot of new activities here.
Masters’ Union focuses on practical learning where 3/4’th of our grades are based on our outclass activities like a mini dropshipping group business, creator challenge, consulting challenge, coding challenges, etc. It had been a very great experience here learning and meeting people and learning from them.
3. Took a session on Notion
I have been using Notion for about 2.5 years and I have organised my content and my life on Notion. I have made a few templates and resources using Notion. Since I was building my work in public, I was approached to take a Notion 101 session by Markitup, for their community and Masters’ Union, for their UG Batch.
It was a great opportunity to take a session for so many people on the tool that helped me a lot in my life. Both sessions taught me how to be a good speaker, how to manage many people at once and how to present in front of more than 60 people.
4. Meet-ups
There is a lot to learn from other people. I have been learning a lot from meeting people. I have gone to a lot of meetups like Delhi Mixer by The Indian Silicon Valley Podcast, Chalchitra Talks’s meetup, Slush Delhi Event, etc. I have also travelled a lot in Delhi and Gurgaon and realised that to meet people, you don’t necessarily need to go to an organized meetup, you can meet great people while travelling, standing at a shop buying something, going for morning walks, etc. You can randomly meet great people and learn from them.
5. Hostel Life
It was an amazing experience living in my college hostel. It is great to live with your friends under one roof, share our traditional food, build things together, etc. My batch has some of the great people building on their projects and startups and I get to see what they are building and learn from them.
Annual review is one of the great ways to reflect on your year. Read Sahil’s newsletter, it will help you reflect on your learnings better.
I’ll publish a detailed newsletter next week on my learnings from this year. Stay Tuned!
