I am a big fan of the movie ‘3 Idiots’ and I am sure that you all must have seen it once. If you remember in the start, when Farhan talks about Rancho, you might recall he saying that professors kept Rancho mostly outside the class and he used to sit in another classroom. Rancho used to say- knowledge is everywhere, where ever you find it, grab it.
Well, I am trying to say that in our lives we after a certain point stop learning. For Indians, it’s especially after school and college. Indians are told that after learning in college their life is set. You don't have to do studies after that. All parents would have said this to us. But life is not like this.
Our education system is a curse to us in that it kills our curiosity. It kills the ability to be alive. If we are not curious about the world, how will we live? School says that you have to get good marks in exams and it focuses on rote learning. Teachers don’t care how much the child has understood, but they reward children for memorizing formulas and using it correctly. And when a child questions the concept taught, the teacher scolds or insults him or her in front of the class.
Well, I am not trying to talk about the system, I am telling you to bring back that curiosity that we have lost. Start wandering around that butterfly in the park and ask questions about it as we did as children. After that, you can also Google why butterflies are so colourful. Just ask questions! Don’t wait for our education system to teach us everything.
Questions are never stupid. Just ask and keep learning.
When I went to Mapro Garden in Mahabaleshwar, then I saw a documentary on the start of the Mapro company and how they make products like Fruit Crushes & Squashes, Ketchup & Toppings, Fruit Syrups, etc. There I got to know that strawberry is not a single fruit. This is what Google had to say about it.
I spoke a small part of Kunal Shah and Ranveer Alliahbadia on The Ranveer Show in this newsletter.
