How I Hosted India’s First Sales Hackathon and What I Learned | #109
India’s First Sales Hackathon
Hi, I'm Pranav
Every Friday, I share my process, thoughts, stories, ideas, and weekly recommendations. We're a community of 160+ curious people reading these newsletters.
I am sorry I couldn’t post the newsletter last week. I was caught up with a lot of things that couldn’t write. But one thing that I did last week was that as a part of Hive School, we hosted India’s first sales hackathon called Salespreneur.
For those who don’t know, I work at Hive School in their founder’s office. It’s a new-age sales school where we teach PGP in B2B and SAAS Sales.
On 10th and 11th February, we hosted the hackathon which was 24 hours long, where 40 participants completed 5 challenges. All the participants had to build and pitch live in front of judges.
The first challenge was to sell on the streets. In this challenge, participants were given a few jewellery articles by Handcrafted by Arunima and they had to sell them for profit. Many people made profits
Then there were various challenges like making pitch decks for the startups that were allocated, doing client sales pitches in a minute and at last, it was the final pitching of pitch decks. All the teams pitched in front of the judges.
It was a great learning experience for the participants. They had been awake the whole 24 hours building their idea. They had worked hard to get the final pitch decks.
It was a great experience for me too. It was the first hackathon that we hosted. I couldn’t believe that I could stay up all night and organise it.
I have built various projects myself. Also, after this hackathon, I realised everyone should participate in hackathons. They are not just for coding, but a hackathon can be of anything, like designing, video editing, entrepreneurship, etc. Here are a few reasons you should participate in a hackathon:
It gamifies the learning and building experience. When you are building or making anything in groups and competing, you’ll be way more motivated to complete it as compared to when you are building alone. Also helps to learn more.
You make like-minded friends. When a lot of people come together to compete with each other or make groups, you meet new people in the same industry or niche.
You learn a lot. When you are building things with unknown people, you get to explore new topics and get to explore new stuff.
Lastly, you be creative in building and enjoy the process of building projects and pitching.
