Hi, I'm Pranav
Every Friday, I share my process, thoughts, stories, ideas, and weekly recommendations. We're a community of 100+ curious people reading these newsletters.
I hated how I was taught in school. I had to study what I was never interested in, I loved sports, but school didn’t allow us to spend much time in the fields. There’s a lot to hate about school, but every situation in my life has taught me something.
I made a video on 8 lessons from school, but today, I’ll share 3 lessons I learnt in school. If you want to see other lessons, you can watch my video here.
LESSON #1: Talk to strangers
My father had a transferable job, so I changed 6 schools in 3 different cities. I got to explore new places, meet new people, explore different cultures, etc.
Every time I went to a new school, I had to introduce myself to my new classmates and the new people in school. That helped me become comfortable talking to strangers.
Today this has helped me a lot. Due to this, I have met a lot of amazing people and that has given me a lot of opportunities.
LESSON #2: Face Failure
I have studied a few people who have noticed that they have seen failure in their lives in some or the other form. I am happy that I failed the internal exams at my school.
After 6th, didn’t score very well in my internal exams, but managed to pass the borderline of the final exam and pass the class. I had to listen a lot from my teachers.
But those failures taught me a lot. It taught me how to face failure, bounce back from it and learnt a lot. Failures gave me a new direction too. Since I didn’t like school, I focused on what I loved: creating content, working in startups, going to meetups, etc. I have learnt a lot here.
I know, I’ll fail more in the future, failures in school gave me an early advantage and taught me a lot.
LESSON #3: Taking part in cultural and co-curricular activities
I loved participating in acting, dance, annual functions, sports and activities which required me to be out of class. I had fun taking part in activities like this and I was also in my school badminton team.
I learnt the most important skill of my life here, which is TEAMWORK. I believe working with a team and collaborating with others help you a lot. You alone cannot scale much and you alone cannot have all the skills that might be needed for the product you are building, but having a team is an advantage, as you have complementary skills and 2 or more brains working on a project. So it gets easier to scale and brainstorm.
For example, if you want to build an app and you are 3 people working on it with one being great at coding, one being good at product management and the other good at marketing, you can have a great team.
That is how I learnt teamwork by participating in activities.
So these were the 3 lessons that I learnt in school. I would love to know what did you learn from your school and what was your experience in school? You can tell me in the comments
