Hello 👋 Pranav here
Every Friday, I share my process, my thoughts, stories and ideas from books, the internet and life and some weekly recommendations
Currently, we are 100+ curious people reading these newsletters every week.
Do you want to save 10 years of your life by just investing 1 month?
Yes, you can save by reading books and diving deeper into an author’s mind. Let me explain
Reading is an integral part of my life and has learnt a lot and enjoyed the journey. My father is an avid reader since his childhood and that made me a reader too. I loved Amar Chitra Katha a lot. 2020 was the time I came into non-fiction and self-help.
I am currently reading The Almanack of Naval Ravikant and there’s a chapter in the book where Naval shared why we should read.
The genuine love for reading itself, when cultivated, is a superpower. We live in the age of Alexandria, when every book and every piece of knowledge ever written down is a fingertip away. The means of learning are abundant—it’s the desire to learn that is scarce
-Naval
There’s a lot to learn from books. An author spends years researching the topic and writing the book. If you read that book in a week or a month, you save a lot of time (the research and learning time of the author) and gain a lot of knowledge. In Naval Ravikant's book, he shared his secrets of being wealthy and happy and talked about how he thinks about his life. By reading this book you take all of his knowledge and apply it in your life.
I don’t actually read a lot of books. I pick up a lot of books and only get through a few which form the foundation of my knowledge. -Naval
Reading a book isn’t a race—the better the book, the more slowly it should be absorbed.

How to read books?
In school, we are given a book to read that we don’t have an interest in. Teachers and parents say “You should read this, but don’t read that.” That makes us hate reading. We don’t read the books that interest us at the start, so we don’t develop the habit of reading. Start with what you read.
Skim most of the parts. This applies to non-fiction books. There are many stories which repeat. Feel free to skip them if you have understood the topic.
I leave a book if I don’t understand it. I don’t regret it at all. Maybe you are not ready for that topic. You can later pick that book to read. In October 2021, I started reading The Obstacle is the Way by Ryan Holiday and I didn’t finish it because I didn’t understand it. Like it’s your job to give attention to the book, it’s the book’s responsibility to give you learning. You should save time.
I’ll start at the beginning, but I’ll move fast. If it’s not interesting, I’ll just start flipping ahead, skimming, or speed reading. If it doesn’t grab my attention within the first chapter in a meaningful, positive way, I’ll either drop the book or skip ahead a few chapters. -Naval
I don’t want to read everything. I just want to read the 100 great books over and over again -A tweet from @illacertus
