Hello 👋 Pranav here
Every Friday, I share my process, my thoughts, stories and ideas from books, the internet and life and some weekly recommendations
We are 100+ curious people reading these newsletters every week.
We all like to make resolutions every December last week and January First week. But if you notice, after a week half of those resolutions break. It’s because all of a sudden we decide to achieve a goal and forget to build habits and systems.
After we achieve a goal, we are happy and then forget about it and if couldn’t achieve it, we become sad.
Habits and systems are long-lasting. Here are 11 habits/resolutions for 2023 that I am going to follow and you can too.
Ask a lot of questions
Curiosity has been a really big part of my life. My YouTube channel’s name is based on creativity. Wherever I have been in the last year, let it be meetups or meeting anyone senior, I am constantly asking questions. If I have time, I would research that person and prepare short questions and notes. I decided to ask the most number of questions to the guest.
I don’t care if it’s a foolish question or not, I just ask out of my curiosity.
Be curious, ask a lot and learn a lot
Call a friend every week
On the internet, we have lost a sense of connection with our loved ones. I want to make a resolution to call a friend and talk for 5-10 minutes. Not on messages, not voice messages, a normal call.
I realised people who are close to us are really important. They are the ones who will help you grow. Being in touch with them is really important
Meditate everyday
Last year I became very irregular at doing meditation. I knew it is important, but I still avoided it. But this year I want to have some time reserved for my mental health and that silent moment in my life. It is really beneficial. You can start with 5-10 minutes a day
Read 30 minutes every day
Many of us planned to read 1 book every week or 4-5 books a month, but we rarely finished our first or second book. Last year I only read 6-7 books. I had planned to read a lot but didn’t. It’s a habit I want to follow again from last year to read for 30 minutes every day.
I don’t want to have the goal of reading 52 books this year, but to absorb the knowledge of the book to its fullest.
Journal everyday
Journaling helped me a lot. I have been writing a journal/dear diary since 2012. But in between I became inconsistent. I managed to write last year.
But this year, I want to try writing every day, let it be half a page or one page. I want to write every day. Writing gives you clarity and writing down your thoughts and reflecting on them will give my thoughts clarity and possibly a pathway for the future
Exercise everyday
After coming to Delhi, I missed exercise, was very consistent at it and ate junk food. But my goal for 2023 is to exercise daily for a minimum of 30 minutes to be fit and feel good.
Social Medialess morning
You have to agree, most of us see Twitter, emails, Instagram or mobile as soon as we get up in the morning. I too see my mobile when I get up. But this year, I want to start using electronics 2-3 hours after waking up. First thing in the morning I’ll do meditation, exercise, and reading and spend time with myself
Travel for meeting people, for myself and not for Instagram
Last year I travelled to different places and I loved it. It was a great experience and met a lot of new people.
This year I want to travel, on a minimal budget and experience different places and meet people. I want to do it for myself and not for Instagram.
We do things to tell people that we did that, we post pictures on Instagram to prove that we did it. But I want to travel just for myself
Spend time in Nature
We are so engrossed in our work, that we are spending 8-10 hours a day in front of computer screens and we rarely spend time in nature. I want to spend time in the mountains and hills. I am a mountain person over an ocean per. I know it’s rare to find lots of trees in the city, but where you can find nature, go spend time there.
Unfollow toxic people from social media and life
Spend time with people who help you grow, be happy when you win and support you.
Don’t spend time with people who make you feel bad about yourself, make you feel unmotivated, make you feel out of energy and do not add value to your growth.
There were 10 things you can apply in your life. If you have made goals different from mine, write them down in the comments so that other people can also learn from them.
