Hello 👋 Pranav here
Every Friday, I share my process, my thoughts, stories and ideas from books, the internet and life and some weekly recommendations
Welcome to 5 new curious readers who joined us last week. Currently, we are 93 curious people reading these newsletters every week.
Congratulations everyone we are reaching the 50th newsletter. In this special newsletter, I thought I should share how and why I started my newsletter last year.
So, here it goes:
When I started my YouTube channel I decided to always be consistent. And I was consistent. But last year in July or August, around that period, I couldn’t make a video and I couldn’t upload that week.
That Sunday I was regretting that I broke consistency. There were my idols who were writing blogs or newsletters and I also wanted to start my own newsletter. So, On that Sunday I decided to start a newsletter by afternoon and upload a video promoting it.
I started researching how to start a newsletter and how to write it properly. But later I thought I should take it slow and plan for the long term, not the short term. I didn’t upload a video that Sunday.
I put the idea of newsletters on hold and focused on YouTube.
Just before coming to Delhi, I had made up my mind that I should start planning about starting the newsletters. After coming to Delhi, I was in the guest house for some time before moving into our home and my school didn’t start yet, so I had plenty of time. So, I started drafting my newsletters in Notion
I wrote about 15-16 newsletters before publishing the first newsletter. The mistake I did with the YouTube channel was I never batched the content at the start, so every time the pressure came on Saturday about making the video for the next day. And for those who think making videos is easy, you should rethink. So, I wanted to have my newsletter’s content ready before publishing.
I asked various people about how to start a newsletter and where to publish it. There were many options, but Substack was easy to start, I liked the UI and it suited my writing style, so chose it. I made an account on Substack on 30'th October and published my 1'st newsletter on 5'th November
As Austin Kleon says, “Every new idea is just a mashup or a remix of one or more previous ideas,” I was inspired by these people:
