Every day we have a choice- We can get a tiny bit better or a tiny bit worse
There is the most powerful concept given by James Clear in his book Atomic Habits called the 1% Rule
1% rule is very simple and interesting- What if you could improve by just 1% every day
If you get 1% better every day, after 1 year you will be 37.78 better. That shows in some way- the way you look, the way you do your work.
That’s basic math. But most people fail to make any decision. Well, think about this. In a day we have a thing called TIME. Most of us, sometimes including me, waste our time. We all wait for 20 minutes waiting for our cab to come, procrastinating on useless things.
Then what we can do?
Every day set aside 20-30 minutes and dedicate that time to yourself in learning something related to personal growth. Not studying history or geography, it has its place. But I am talking about personal growth, and how to be better in our lives.
Then how to implement it?
We can listen to podcasts, read books, see educational content on the internet, etc.
Just start with 20-30 minutes a day and you’ll get amazing results.
Also, there is a flip side to it. If we don’t improve every day, at the end of the year, we will come down to 0.03%.
So, it’s 1% gain every day and these gains add up.
Here’s a newsletter by James Clear on the topic of Continuous Improvement. You can read it here.
