Hi, I'm Pranav
Every Friday, I share my process, thoughts, stories, ideas, and weekly recommendations. We're a community of 100+ curious people reading these newsletters.
I am sorry for missing last week’s newsletter. I couldn’t write because I was a little busy taking admission to college. I’ll update you on where I will be studying in a future newsletter.
Now back to the newsletter.
Have you ever decided to do a project, you planned a lot about how to do it but after some time when you get started on doing that project, you get bored and lose the motivation to do it?
So, when it comes to getting started on any project, we tend to plan every step of it. We just focus on planning, but what we should actually focus is on taking action. Here’s why:-
Investor Dineal Gross was on My First Million Podcast and he spoke about this on the show. Also here’s a quote from one of his blogs with a similar topic-
The longer you think about a task without doing it, the less novel it becomes to do. Writing things in your to-do list and coming back to them later helps you focus, but it comes at the cost: you’ve converted an interesting idea into work. Since you have thought about it a little bit it's less interesting to work on.
We tend to plan a lot and put so much effort into it that we finish our enjoyment in planning. So when we not take action on it, it feels boring.
For example, when I shifted from Pune to Delhi in October 2021, I planned a lot about how should my room look like. My room is the place where I shoot my YouTube videos, so I had to design accordingly. I planned how it will look and saw 100s of room tour videos. But when I actually started getting in with my stuff, I was not as excited as I was during planning. Yes, I was happy to shift to a new place, but shifting felt like work. The fun stuff of planning was done and only work was remaining.
So, try reducing the time between thinking and execution. Yes, planning is important but not more important than taking action. When you start doing things and experimenting, then you will realize new things and that will be adventurous.
