Hi, I'm Pranav
I work at Hive School, which is India’s First Sales School. I also create content on my YouTube where I share my processes and learnings.
Every Friday, in this newsletter, I share my process, thoughts, stories, ideas, and weekly recommendations.
I was reading a newsletter by
(Founder of Fueler) in ‘Early 20s’. He spoke about what things we should do in our early 20s and optimize it.One point he mentioned in the newsletter was to work with the founders who are 5-10 years ahead of you. This is what he said.
I have worked with some great founders. I just worked with 3 founders now, but I have learnt a lot in that journey. They have shaped me as a person. After reading Riten's post, I thought to reflect on my learnings and write down all my learnings. So, here are my learnings from working with founders.
Riten mentions doing an offline or in-office internship or working with the founders. But since I was getting an opportunity to do a remote (online) internship at the start, I grabbed it. I learnt a lot, but as now I am working with Hive School, which is completely offline, I suggest searching for in-person work. It will have more effect on you as compared to online internships.
So this newsletter is divided into two parts. First ONLINE work and second OFFLINE work.
PART 1: ONLINE INTERNSHIP
I got to work with
who is a Notion India Ambassador. I worked as a YouTube and Instagram manager intern in her startup. This was one of my first internships. After finishing this internship, I worked with Fueler, which lets you showcase your Proof of Work in the form of a portfolio. In Fueler, I was directly working with none other than Riten. These 2 internships shaped me as a person. I give credit to these founders as they taught me a lot. Here are my learnings from these internships.
I learnt the founders’ mindset. How a founder thinks. As a founder, you have to deal with a lot of things and manage everyone. Everyone in the team is doing a specific role like marketing or growth, but you have to look into everything and get things done.
Consistency is the key. No matter what happens, you have to work every day. You may not feel good, the deal you thought would be successful got cancelled, etc. But you have to work every day.
Don’t waste your time creating solutions for your imaginary problems. As we work in a startup, esp if you are new to doing startups, you assume you will face some problems. But many times, that doesn’t occur. Sometimes you have to let a problem happen and later figure out how to solve it.
I also got to learn a lot about social media, how it works, what type of content to post, etc. I managed Vensy’s YouTube channel and Fueler’s YouTube and Twitter.
PART 2: OFFLINE WORK
In December of 2023, I started working with Nikhil on Hive School. He had an idea to build a school in Sales. I joined the founding team.
We both started working on the initial website, did a few events, met mentors, etc. I was working every day on this. I build Hive’s first website in 2-3 weeks. We also started posting content on our socials, we hosted India’s First Sales Hackathon, etc.
Here I realized, that online work is great, but the learnings you have doing offline work is immense.
Here are my learnings from working at Hive School.
Here I realised the power of building in public. Nikhil and I started making content on building Hive, our progress, learnings, etc. We made bts videos and posted them on our socials. That helped us get the initial traction and people started knowing about us.
Apart from building in public, we also made sure that we post good content on Hive School’s LinkedIn, Instagram and Twitter. We have got our first cohort with 0 Rupees spent on paid marketing. We focused on content a lot.
In the process, I also met a lot of great people. Whether it was in Salespreneur S1, SaaS Mixer or while collaborations, I learnt how to talk to people.
We also hosted a few events. We did a 24 Hour Sales Hackathon called Salespreneur. It had 5 challenges in which 40 people participated. We also hosted a SaaS Mixer. It was a networking event with the top 1% of B2B SaaS professionals. I learnt to host and manage events. I got to know how to host people, get everything ready for the event, etc.
And doing judad. I read this in one of Riten’s newsletters about a thumb rule: beg, borrow, steal. It means that in a startup, you don’t have enough money. You have to do jugad, beg, borrow, steal and get the work done.
What are we doing at Hive School now?
We are now doing the admissions for the Second Cohort. You can check out Hive School here.
A special note for you: This is my point of view. If you don’t have the option to do an offline internship at the start, online might be good, but offline one will give you exposure, but an online internship won’t give you.
