Hello 👋 Pranav here
Every Friday, I share my process, my thoughts, stories and ideas from books, the internet and life and some weekly recommendations
Welcome to 04 subscribers who joined us this week. Currently, we are 97 curious people reading these newsletters every week.
There’s a giveaway at the end, so read till the end.
Last week I completed 50 newsletters and also a year of writing newsletters. Starting an email newsletter is the best decision I have made in my life as a creator. I have learnt a lot about writing over the last year on the internet.
In this newsletter, I’ll share what I have learnt while writing this newsletter and why you should consider starting to write on the internet. I am referring to newsletters. But it applies to any writing platform like LinkedIn, Twitter, Medium, Blogs, etc
Read till the last as I have a giveaway for all the subscribers.
My learnings
#1 Your small learnings can help someone
I used to think that if I share my problem and the solution to it and my learnings from the things I have learnt, will people learn anything from it? But when I share the problems and their solution or learnings there are people with similar issues who are unable to solve them. Whenever I write a newsletter, it helps many people and they learn every day
#2 Gave clarity to my thoughts
It’s true that writing gives you clarity. Whenever I had any doubts about any topic or life, it helps me jot down things on a sheet and reflect on them.
For example, if I am struggling a lot with self-doubt recently and I took out my journal and started writing about it. I started jotting all my problems, why I am facing them, is it curable or not, how can I cure them, who can help me, etc. I started asking myself questions and answering them. It gave me a lot of clarity on myself.
#3 Improve writing skills
School tells you how to write but rarely tells you how to improve your writing in the correct way. I have more than 90 subscribers and there are people too who are reading my newsletters. They give me feedback on everything. There are many of good feedback I learn a lot with every piece of feedback
#4 Connections to different people
There are people who read my newsletter and message me that they liked my newsletter and they want to have a conversation with me. It helps me connect with many curious people. Some of my idols, from whom I have taken, also have messaged me saying they liked my newsletter.
Also, for many topics, I have to research a lot. It helps me build my mind, I learn from that research and have topics to start a conversation with people.
If you want to talk to me about anything, you can just reply to this mail. I love talking to people.
#5 Neglect Naysayers
Initially, I had the fear of what others will think when I write my newsletters and they will criticise me a lot. But nobody cares about your work. Everyone is busy with their own work. If your friend is learning to do yoga and he wants to document his journey, will you judge him for that? No right!
Why you should start a blog/newsletter?
If you are watching me as a creator, you may be interested in why writing process, how I think, and how I write or if I am making videos, I can share my script or resources I referred to, my notes.
Earlier when the Internet wasn’t a thing, you couldn’t actually see people’s processes. A writer went into his room and came out with a book or a painter locked himself in his room and painted something and came out with art. But we want to see how the painting was created. Writing a newsletter is not about coming up with new ideas, but it’s about sharing your process, just document your life/ journey
You don’t have to be a genius
‘Show your work’ is a guide to creators. The first chapter says, you don’t have to be a genius, embrace a beginner’s mindset. I am a beginner at writing, I write about the process of learning writing or tips which helped me in my life. Just document and share your process. When you are a beginner, you are able to teach others. But when you become an expert, you have forgotten how to be a beginner
The Butterfly effect
If a butterfly flaps its wings in Brazil, the air currents formed by it, the chain reaction of it can create a tornado. So don’t worry about what other people think or will help others or not. Just keep writing. You may not know you are a great inspiration for someone
