How many of you know Ankur Warikoo? I have mentioned him many times in past. Many of you know him as the founder of nearbuy.com or a content creator. Many people discovered his content during the 2020 lockdown. In March 2020 he was at about 10,000 subscribers. But after that, it shot up very fast. Today he is at 2.2 Million subscribers.
We might see it as an overnight success, but what you should know is that he’s making content since 2017. It's the continuous process of 4 years he has put in.
When starting something, we don't see any big results. We just have to show up every day.
When we start going to the gym, the first day we look in the mirror, there is no result. There's no result on the second day too. When many people don't see any results at the start, they quit.
If you want to get into good shape, working out for 9 hours a day before your important day is not the solution. But working out for 20 minutes every day will get you in shape.
It’s the same as brushing your teeth for 2 minutes every day not doing to do anything. But it’s the continuous process of brushing your teeth every day
It is an accumulation of lots and lots of little things.
We have to believe in ourselves that it is going to work and we should stick to it. Commit to the regime.
A pro is an amature who simply shows up everyday
This is an extract from Austin Kleon’s book ‘Show Your Work):
3 ways to be consistent
Have a strong WHY
We all know HOW to be fit, and HOW to read the book, but we don’t know WHY to be fit and WHY to read a book. So define your WHY to be consistent. It can be different for many people
Start small for 30 days
Remember the 1% rule? It applies here too.
If you are new to reading, don’t read 1 book every week (a month too). Start reading 5 pages or for 30 minutes every day for 30 days. Then continue that process. You can increase your 5 pages or 30 minutes when you are in the habit of reading.
Build in Public
If you want to commit to reading (or anything) tell your friends or announce on the internet that you are building a habit. Then for the next 30 days give them your updates. This way you will be accountable. This process can be continued after 30 days to not break the consistency.
Whatever project I am working on, whether it's video editing or graphics design, I either share it with an accountability group or Twitter. Then after learning that skill, I show that work on my Fueler portfolio. I do it so that others can see my old projects and it can help me collaborate with other people with the same interests or find an internship.
A habit I am building
I have been writing a diary/journal since 2012 (I was 7 years old). I was continuously writing for 2-3 years, but then I started writing 1-2 times a week or for months. In 2020 I decided to be consistent. Now I’ll be writing for 30 days from 1’st of October till 30’th.
