Hi, I'm Pranav
Every Friday, I share processes, thoughts, stories, ideas, and weekly recommendations. We're a group of 100+ curious people reading these newsletters.
Last Sunday I went to Ankur Warikoo’s Live book event in Delhi and it was an amazing session. Got a lot of insights from him. For those who know, I have made a lot of friends on Twitter. So I went with a few of my Twitter friends for the event.
I admire Ankur Warikoo a lot. What he has done on the internet, has impacted millions of lives. Here are 3 lessons I draw from his life.
Consistency
He has been making content since 2005. He started with blogs, then LinkedIn, Twitter, and in 2017 YouTube. But he got major growth in the 2020 lockdown. But for those 15 years before 2020, he showed up every day and every week and made consistent content.
That’s one reason for my consistency. If I show up every day, then only I’ll improve my work. James Clear says a lot about the 1% rule. You have to improve by 1% every day. Read more about it here.
Patience
If you master it, you will be successful in life. For anything in life, you have to have patience. Ankur made content patiently for 15 years, not wanting results immediately. In startups and content creation, the growth is very slow. But being patient is key.
There’s a quote in Bhagavad Gita on a very similar topic:
कर्मण्येवाधिकारस्ते मा फलेषु कदाचन । मा कर्मफलहेतुः भूः मा ते सङ्गः अस्त्वकर्मणि ॥
It means that focus on taking action, not on the outcomes of it.
Authenticity
Ankur Warikoo says that if you see him on YouTube or meet him in person, he’ll be the same person and you’ll not see a different version of him. I got to speak to him for a couple of seconds and saw his talk for 1+ hour. I agree, he is the same person I had seen on YouTube. There was no change. I am also trying to implement this lesson in my life too.
Self-Plugin
I made a video on why thinking positively doesn’t work and why present thinking is important
